Geoffrey Talis, MD

Dr. Geoffrey Talis graduated from Drew University where he began his scientific explorations of psychoneuroendocrinology and low-tech, high-touch interventions for health and healing. He earned a Master's degree from Georgetown University in Integrative Health and Medicine, which inspired him to continue forth in his medical education at St. George’s University School of Medicine to become a physician. Dr. Talis created the first Integrative Health and Medicine group on campus which facilitated wellness-oriented social gatherings in the form of meditation and yoga sessions, Tai Chi, and dance classes. He later matched at Rutgers NJMS for his Residency in Psychiatry where he was recognized for his passion of teaching residents and medical students, serving as Academic Chief Resident in his final year. Dr. Talis continues to expand his knowledge in the areas of psychodynamic and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, meditation practices, trauma-informed care, substance use disorder treatments, and other holistic health care approaches. Dr. Talis enjoys hiking, weightlifting, and playing video games in his downtime with family and friends.
Douglas Opler, MD
Co-Founder, JumpStart Psych
Dr. Douglas Opler graduated from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study in New York City, where he studied evolutionary anthropology. A change of plans led him away from anthropology to SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, where he earned his medical degree. After graduation, he completed a psychiatry residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. He stayed at Montefiore for an additional year of fellowship training in psychiatric care of the medically-ill. In 2013, Dr. Opler joined the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where he teaches and sees patients as an attending psychiatrist on the consultation-liaison psychiatry service of the affiliated University Hospital in Newark. He separately sees patients in his private practice in Ramsey, New Jersey. In 2017, he was a recipient of the Association for Academic Psychiatry's Early Career Development Award. Dr. Opler has published on diverse topics, including somatization, mindfulness, supportive psychotherapy, stimulant use disorder, Andy Warhol's views on psychiatrists, and psychiatric topics in film and other media. He has presented at national professional conferences on diverse topics, including the psychological role of humor. When not working, Dr. Opler enjoys raising his children, playing musical instruments, and painting.
